Sketching & Painting

When I was young, my parents supported many activities for all of us. My god father Harry Brown gave me a geometry kit (protractor, compass for drawing circles, etc.) and him being an architect it was fancy, had lots of sharp bits, I loved it. Around the same time one of my father’s good friends in the printing business gave me what seemed like an endless roll of white paper to draw on. Eventually my mother enrolled me in a water colour painting class at McMichael Gallery in Klineberg, I was hooked. Below is a sketch by well known Canadian artist William Winters, I’m sitting rather awkward having smudged some of Winter’s oil paint into my shirt. Beside that is A.Y. Jackson at McMichael ‘Canadian Art Collection’ gallery in Klienberg. I was fortunate to meet them both at a young age.

Please feel free to ask me about my Brown Paper Bag paintings, they represent one of my favourtie things to do. Rob Heighington – rob@creativespark.ca
